Almond Joy Smoothie (V) (DF)

Anyone else like to relive cravings through smoothies? I feel like its a great way to “cheat” without cheating. You feel me?

Well, lately I’ve been all about the craving smoothies. I quite literally have dreams about these and its absolutely crazy! I’ll wake up just salivating over a new concoction that I dreamt about. This one was Almond Joy.

Which by the way, I hated those candy bars as a kid! Like absolutely despised coconut! Probably because it sounded too “healthy” for my sugar craving kid self! Let me tell you, my body was a sugar tank as a kid! I quite literally don’t remember a time growing up and even into my 20’s that I wasn’t pounding candy. I look back now and I’m just disgusted by it and it clearly shows how my gut microbes were just deteriorating.

However, the past 10+ years I’ve been considerably healthy. In fact, each year, and with the more that I learn my food becomes cleaner. So I can definitely say that I’ve cleaned up my diet drastically over the past 10 years.

That’s not to say I don’t have the occasional or even more than occasionally, during certain times of the month, dose of sugar. Many times more than the daily recommended servings from the FDA which is 24g of sugar a day! I have days when I surpass that, however I do really watch with each meal to keep that under control. Otherwise, I definitely start to spiral out of control with cravings if I don’t manage it.

So with that whole long back story about my sugar addition, I give you my tasty LOW sugar, LOW carb smoothie!

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop chocolate plant protein - I love the 365 brand from whole foods!

  • 4 ice cubes

  • 1 handful raw almonds

  • 1 cup nut milk

  • 2 tbsp coconut flakes

  • 2 tbsp cacao nibs

  • *optional 1 tsp maca powder

  • *if you want it a bit thicker add 1/2 frozen banana

Directions:

Add all ingredients to blend. Blend until smooth. Top with cacao nibs and/or coconut flakes. Enjoy!
